We are hikers, cyclists, dog walkers, and we value Waterdog Open Space
Who are you? Us too! Waterdog has something for all of us.
Hikers
Waterdog Open Space has miles of trails, from long and wide open to narrow and twisty. Hikers and runners of all abilities can find trails to enjoy at Waterdog. Best of all, they’re right in the heart of the Peninsula.
Cyclists
Waterdog’s trails were built by mountain bikers! They’re perfect for everything from getting an after-work fitness ride in to bringing your kids out to cut their teeth on dirt trails, right here in Belmont.
Dog Walkers
Dogs are regulars at Waterdog Open Space. They enjoy the fresh air and dirt beneath their paws as much as their humans do! The lake is a common place to meet up with other dog owners and socialize on a weekend morning.
Who aren’t we?
We don’t want Waterdog to be closed to recreation
There is a vocal minority of local residents—they live on the ridge above Waterdog—who want to change Waterdog’s official designation to exclude recreational uses. Waterdog is a resource for us all!
We aren’t trying to make Waterdog our personal backyard
Some of us live in houses abutting Waterdog too, but we aren’t trying to keep other users out, just to make our views more private and pristine. We knew what we had when we moved here, and know it’s for everyone.
We aren’t making stuff up
We’ve seen some false narratives being promoted in the community that make it seem like recreation is harming the environment at Waterdog. Nothing could be further from the truth! Waterdog has been a stable habitat for decades, and recreation certainly isn’t harming it. We are volunteers who dedicate hours to maintaining the park.
